You send a message and watch them take hours to reply, and when it finally comes you tell yourself you do not mind, that you are easy going, that this is simply how they are. You laugh off the comment that stung. You say you are fine when you are not. People tend to treat us the way we have quietly agreed to be treated. If we only ever ask for the bare minimum, then the bare minimum is who we will keep letting in. So the real question is not whether they will change. It is whether we believe, deep down, that we deserve more.
