It Was Never Your Looks

You told someone you liked them, someone you really cared about, and it did not go the way you hoped, and now you keep playing it back in your head, thinking about what you said and how you looked and what you could have done so it ended differently. Then a smaller thought creeps in, and it is the one that hurts the most, the thought that maybe you are just not good-looking enough for anyone to want you.
From there it is easy to start blaming the way you look, wondering if a woman would have said yes if your body were different, or if a man would have stayed if you had a nicer car, a bigger house, more money in the bank. We grow up believing there is a list a person has to pass before anyone will pick them, and how we look feels like the box we failed to tick. But is that really why people get turned down, and do you truly have to look a certain way before you are allowed to be loved?
I once watched a man I know get turned down, and he walked away sure he knew why, and the reason he chose was not the real one at all.
